Art Boats

Calling all Artists, Makers, Tinkerers, Engineers, Burners, Boaters, Racers, and Wayward Drifters!

You’re invited to craft an art vessel that will win the Rivertown Revival’s Grand Art Boat Flotilla and wow our judges with your artistic and engineering brilliance! Participating is easy:

The Grand Flotilla is part of a whole slew (no pun intended) of fun happening on the water on Revival day:

  • Bug Deakin, the official RR Water Emcee, arrives on the Reclamation Road jetty, with music from the Highway Poets
  • Trapeze stylings and wonderment
  • Break for music at the Barn Stage. Art Boat builders meet and greet with an adoring public.
  • The Grand RR Flotilla + Race Around the Slough
  • The Flotilla finishes / Break / Music resumes at Barn Stage
  • Trophy Presentations

Boats 2012

Make an art vessel that will win the Grand RR Flotilla + Race Around the Slough — that will wow our judges with your artistic and engineering brilliance and participate in a lap around our race course!

Our local celebrity judges will deliberate and award trophies to Best of Show Winners, in recognition of your talents, in the following categories:

River Beauty Award
River ICON Award
River Clean Award
River Smarty Award
River Speedy Award

Race Rules, Information, and Random Facts:

  • We welcome any decorated boat to join the fun! Any human powered or “green” powered (human, paddle, or green energy) decorated boat can join the Grand Flotilla + Race Around the Slough.
  • In the true spirit of the race, be inventive, artistic, and outrageous in your design. Just make sure your vessel will float!
  • You must be sober. That means no alcohol or drugs will influence you or your vessel’s behavior.
  • Tides, wind and wakes are to be reckoned with. Wind picks up in the afternoon (good for sails, hard for paddlers)
  • We strongly recommend that you launch your boat on Friday the 19th to ease logistics and avoid low tide.
  • Your vessel is your responsibility not the Rivertown Revival’s; keep an eye on her. Your vessel entry number must be visible and placed on the front of your craft.
  • It is the team’s responsibility to remove any vestiges of vessel and crew by 3PM on Sunday the 21st.

Dream up and build your vessel. It must be human powered or green energy powered. Otherwise, all is fair game.
